Bike East Bay believes that we create healthier, happier cities when more people bike, walk and take transit. Backed by over 4,000 members, this nonprofit organization empowers community members, volunteers, and partner groups to champion new bike lanes and traffic safety solutions. Campaign victories include lifting BART’s ban on bikes and adding a bike path to the new East Span of the Bay Bridge. Plans for a West Span bike path are in the works, which will allow commuters and recreational riders to bike between Oakland and San Francisco. With the support of over 4,000 members, Bike East Bay is working with cities throughout the East Bay to build complete networks of world-class bikeways.
In addition to advocating for better bike infrastructure, Bike East Bay also operates a world-class bike education program. Their free classes teach bike handling skills, rules of the road and practical tips for biking in the city. Every year, Bike East Bay empowers over 5,000 adults and kids to ride safely and confidently.
